How to Unroll Your Puzzle Mat
When you’re ready to continue your puzzle session, carefully unroll your Puzzle Mat using the following steps.
Hold the Rolled Mat Before Removing the Straps
Gently hold the rolled mat in place with one hand to prevent sudden unrolling or shifting. Remove the straps one at a time while keeping the mat stabilized.
Slowly Unroll the Puzzle Mat
Carefully and slowly unroll the mat onto a flat surface.
Avoid:
- Fast unrolling
- Shaking the mat
- Flipping or dropping the rolled puzzle
A slow and controlled unrolling process helps keep assembled puzzle sections more stable.
Reconnect Puzzle Sections if Needed
After unrolling, some sections or individual pieces may slightly separate. This is normal, especially with loose sections, thinner puzzle pieces, or partially assembled puzzles.
To restore the puzzle surface:
- Gently smooth the puzzle with your hands
- Lightly press connected sections back into place
- Optionally use the foam tube to gently flatten and stabilize the surface
Puzzle Piece Thickness Matters
- Thicker, higher-quality pieces tend to stay connected more securely during rolling and storage
- Thinner pieces may separate more easily or temporarily curve after being rolled
If some pieces lose their flat shape after storage, place a few heavy books over the affected area and allow them to rest for several hours. In most cases they will gradually flatten back to their normal shape.
Additional Tips
- Assembled puzzle frames and larger connected sections remain more stable during storage
- Avoid excessive pressure while rolling
- For best long-term results, do not leave puzzles rolled for extremely long periods without unrolling occasionally
